“Fabulous Tomcar Sunset Experience”
-DutchCanadian75; Edmonton, CAThink it’s too hot in the summer in Phoenix to go ATV-ing? Think again!
My wife and I had a great experience with Kevin of Desert Wolf Tours doing the Sunset Tomcar experience. We met Kevin [at the Wolf Den] around 6:15pm, where he gave us a short explanation about the tour and how to drive the Tomcar (very easy). We drove in/through the Sonoran desert in the Tomcar. What an incredible experience. My wife and I took turns driving.
We watched the beautiful sunset together.
Kevin is very knowledgable and showed us all the different plants of the desert and how to survive in the desert if need be 😉Big Thank You to Kevin who made the tour entertaining and fun.

General Desert Wolf Tours FAQs 🐺
Where does this adventure depart from?
This adventure departs from the Desert Wolf Tours Wolf Den, our purpose-built tour home base located at:
46639 N Black Canyon Hwy
Phoenix, AZ 85087The Wolf Den is conveniently located just off I-17 at Exit 232 on the north edge of the Phoenix city limits. This is where you’ll check in, complete waivers, meet your Adventure Guides, and get ready for your Sonoran Desert adventure.

How far are you from Phoenix and Scottsdale?
Our Wolf Den tour departure location is about 40 minutes from both downtown Phoenix and Scottsdale, depending on traffic and where you are staying.
That may sound far if you are visiting from out of town, but the Phoenix/Scottsdale metro area is huge — and real off-road tours need real desert trails.
The important difference is that Desert Wolf Tours is easy to reach:
✅ Real trailhead departure location in Phoenix
✅ Located directly off I-17 at Exit 232
✅ No guest driving on dirt roads to reach us
✅ No remote backroad staging area
✅ No confusing “Scottsdale office” that is not the actual tour locationThere are no ATV trails in downtown Phoenix or Scottsdale resort areas. Some companies advertise a Scottsdale office or address, but their actual tour departure point may be much farther away.
At Desert Wolf Tours, we want guests to know exactly where they are going before they book. Your adventure departs from our climate-controlled Wolf Den just off I-17.
Look for the Desert Wolf Tours signs and feather flags when you arrive. 🐺🌵
Do you provide hotel pickup, or can you recommend transportation?
We do not provide hotel or resort pickup at this time.
Most guests arrange their own transportation because it gives them more flexibility before and after the tour. Many guests choose to enjoy a meal, stop for a drink, visit nearby shops, or explore the surrounding area before heading back to their hotel or resort.
The Wolf Den is easy to reach by rental car, rideshare, taxi, private transportation service, or resort-arranged transportation. We are located just off I-17 at Exit 232, so guests do not have to navigate dirt roads or remote backcountry access routes to reach us. 🚙
For guests who prefer private transportation, we often recommend Eric with AZ Chauffeur, a longtime trusted transportation provider we have worked with for more than 10 years.
AZ Chauffeur
Contact: Eric
Phone: 623-810-4818AZ Chauffeur is an independent transportation company and is not owned or operated by Desert Wolf Tours. Transportation should be arranged directly with Eric. Availability, pricing, timing, and service details are handled directly by AZ Chauffeur.
Do we need a reservation in advance?
Yes. All Desert Wolf Tours adventures require advance reservations.
Our tours often have limited availability, especially during busy travel seasons, holidays, weekends, and popular departure times. Booking in advance is the best way to secure your preferred date and time. ✅
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 48 hours’ advance notice before your scheduled departure time to receive a 100% refund.
Please review your confirmation email for the full cancellation policy and any activity-specific details.
Can everyone drive?
Drivers must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license to operate a Tomcar.
Minor drivers, ages 16 and 17, may be allowed to drive with a parent or guardian’s assumption of financial liability. Please call for details if you have a minor who wants to drive.
All drivers must follow guide instructions and operate the vehicle safely.
Are there age restrictions for riders?
We leave the minimum rider age to the discretion of the parent or guardian.
Our Tomcars are stable, purpose-built off-road vehicles and can accommodate a properly installed car seat. Children 5 and under do not need to wear a DOT-approved helmet if they are secured in a DOT-approved car seat.
Children who are not riding in an approved car seat, and all guests under the age of 18, must wear a DOT-approved safety helmet, which Desert Wolf Tours provides.
This is still a real desert adventure in a natural environment. Parents and guardians are responsible for determining whether the tour is appropriate for their child and for supervising their children throughout the experience.
Will there be other people in my vehicle?
Desert Wolf Tours operates professionally guided convoy-style adventures.
Most Tomcars seat up to 4 guests. Parties of 3 or 4 will typically have their own vehicle. Parties of 2 may be paired with another party of 2, depending on the guest mix for that tour time.
Guests who want to guarantee a private vehicle for 2 people may be able to reserve a private vehicle upgrade at the time of booking, subject to availability.
Do I need off-road driving experience?
No off-road experience is required.
Our Adventure Guides provide a safety briefing, vehicle orientation, and guidance throughout the tour. You’ll follow your guide through the desert in a professionally managed convoy, and our team is there to help you feel confident before the adventure begins. 💪
What should we wear?
Dress for the weather and the desert environment.
Tomcars are open-sided vehicles, and our tours operate in the Sonoran Desert. We recommend comfortable outdoor clothing, closed-toe shoes, sunglasses, and weather-appropriate layers.
During cooler months, mornings and evenings can be chilly. During warmer months, lightweight breathable clothing is usually best.
Our tours operate rain or shine, so please check the local weather forecast before your tour and dress accordingly. 🌵
Should we bring water?
Desert Wolf Tours brings large coolers with plenty of ice and bottled water.
You are also welcome to bring your own non-alcoholic beverage if you prefer. Guests may use our coolers during the tour. 💧
Are there restrooms on the tour?
There are no restrooms out on the trail.
Please use the clean restroom facilities at the Wolf Den before your tour departs.
What happens if it rains?
Our tours operate rain or shine, unless Desert Wolf Tours determines that conditions are unsafe.
Please dress for the weather. Tomcars provide some shelter, but you may still get wet if it rains. For many guests, changing desert weather becomes part of the adventure.
Safety always comes first, and our team monitors conditions before and during each tour.
How safe are the Tomcars?
Tomcars are purpose-built off-road vehicles originally designed for military use.
They feature a wide stance, independent suspension, full roll cages, and 4-point safety harnesses. Our tours are professionally guided, and guests receive a safety briefing and vehicle orientation before departure.
Like any outdoor adventure, this is not a controlled theme-park environment. We operate in the natural Sonoran Desert, so guests should expect real terrain, changing conditions, and a true off-road experience.
Do guests have to wear helmets?
Guests under the age of 18 are required to wear a DOT-approved safety helmet, which Desert Wolf Tours provides.
Helmet requirements for adults may vary depending on the adventure, vehicle, and applicable rules. Please review your specific activity details and follow all guide instructions.
Can pregnant guests take the tour?
This decision is up to the guest and their doctor.
Please keep in mind that our tours operate in a natural desert environment and include off-road terrain. Once the tour departs, guests return with the tour group, and there is no quick way to leave early.
If you are pregnant or have any medical concerns, we recommend speaking with your doctor before booking.
